Discover Your Slovenian Ancestry

Research your Slovenian ancestry through the largest U.S. repository of Slovenian family histories and other genealogy resources dedicated to Slovenian genealogy. Resources are found both online and at the SGSI Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Volunteer staff members are there to assist you in starting your research, helping to identity your family's ancestral home in Slovenia, and connecting you with the proper repository in Slovenia to obtaincopies of birth, marriage, and death certificates, etc.

Connect with a global community of research support

Advance your research by exchanging genealogy information with a growing community of individuals researching their Slovenian ancestry. Members are located in the United States and a number of international locations. Post your research queries as well as successful record finds on the SGSI online forums. Join our Facebook group, become active in local SGSI branch meetings, and explore partnerships with global Slovenian organizations.

Preserve Your Slovenian Heritage

Assist in the preservation of Slovenian genealogy records, publications, and oral histories by sharing your family stories and donating manuscript records to the SGSI Research Center. SGSI is committed to collecting and preserving this growing repository. This information is available to all members. Ongoing preservation projects include: Slovenian DNA studies and the digitization of the Archbishopric Archives in Ljubljana.

Share Your Family Story!

Contribute to the SGSI community by sharing your personal story of finding your Slovenian roots. Stories of family discoveries can be celebrated by article publications in the SGSI quarterly newsletter, The Linden Tree, presenting at local branch meetings, or posting via social media. Help us continue the important work of enriching the lives of individuals with Slovenian ancestry.
